Synthetic diamonds have been used for decades in cutting tools and abrasive applications. UNCD® synthesized in thin film form using a patented process originally developed at Argonne National Laboratory, is known for its ability to be integrated with other materials. Comprised of diamond grains that are 3-5 nm in diameter—a billion-fold smaller in volume than traditional diamond films—UNCD has many desirable properties such as as-deposited smoothness and the ability to be deposited at temperatures compatible with traditional semiconductor manufacturing processes.
